why clean beauty is important for your health and for the environment
At the Moringa project, we’re big fans of clean beauty.
While the overall term is still somewhat murky because there's no industry standard for the category, the basic concept of clean beauty refers to beauty products made without ingredients shown or suspected to harm human health. So out with parabens, sulfates, phthalates, and artificial fragrances; in with natural formulas and all-natural compounds.
If something is intended to stay on your skin all day, clean beauty enthusiasts will tell you, then it should be the cleanest, least invasive, gentlest alternative possible.
Moringa oil is a perfect example of clean beauty: a product devoid of nasties and fear-mongering language that strives for a clean-conscious approach to your beauty regimen.
But it’s by no means the only one.
Clean beauty formulations are increasingly finding their place onto beauty shops and counters everywhere, meaning it’s becoming a lot easier to adopt them in our everyday routines, or swap our old, less wholesome staples for them.
And how important that swap is.
By focusing on eliminating as many toxins as possible from our daily products, clean skincare offers in fact safe, non-toxic remedies for our hair, skin and body -- meaning products that are completely transparent about what’s in their formulas, and therefore only beneficial to our health.
Those same non-toxic elements and plant-based ingredients are also good for the environment. Using earth-derived formulas and sustainable production practices, clean beauty brands are rid of all those hard-to-recycle components that can be potentially harmful to the planet, ensuring they do well by all those resources they draw from. Most of them also point on lowering their carbon emissions, and using packaging that’s compostable, plastic-free, or sustainably sourced.
Choosing clean beauty products, then, is essentially opting for sustainable beauty.
In a world faced with so many unprecedented environmental issues, there’s no other beauty we would support.
